Dot In A Circle

The circled dot, circumpunct, or circle with a point at its center is an ancient symbol. The symbol also represents the sun.

Apollothe Sun god, brings life-giving heat and light to Earth. Apollo replaced the Titan Helios as the sun god, the Greeks referred to both of them as the Sun gods. As patron god of musicians and poets, he carries a lyre. His symbol represents the “egg of creation” which is symbolized with by a circle with dot in the middle.

"It is reasonably certain that the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden is based upon embryology, and that the womb is the original Garden of Eden. In symbolism it is represented by a dot in a circle. This dot is the primitive germ, and so on as far as you wish to carry the analogy. The Egg of Brahma is the story of the cosmic embryo, and embryology is the basic study of creation." - Anatomy of Man Manly P. Hall pg. 27

"When we have united these three manifestations into a harmonious balance, we then have the flaming triangle. The ancients declared God, as the dot in the circle, to be unknowable, but said that he manifested through his three witnesses—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Now the same is true with man. The part of God which is within each of us can manifest only through his three witnesses; the Father manifests through our thoughts, the Son through our emotions, and the I [oly Spirit through our actions. When we balance our thoughts, our desires, and our actions, we have an equilateral triangle." - Anatomy of Man Manly P. Hall pg. 32

"the point within the circle represents God in the centre of the Universe. It is a common Egyptian sign for the Sun and Osiris, and is still used as the astronomical sign of the great luminary. In the Kabalah the point is YOD, the Creative Energy of God, irradiating with light the circular space which God, the universal Light, left vacant, wherein to create the worlds, by withdrawing His substance of Light back on all sides from one point" - Morales And Dogma Albert Pike

"The fact that each, St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, were Eminent Essenes, is a sufficient reason why, in later times, Masons should dedicate their lodges to them without looking for or assigning any others, although doubtless our ancient brethren had other reasons. Masonic Monitors say: 'And since their time (St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist), there is represented in every regular and well-governed Lodge a certain point within a circle, embordered by two perpendicular parallel lines, representing St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, and upon the top rests the Holy Scripture. The two parallel lines which in the modern lectures are said to represent St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, really allude to particular periods in the sun 's annual course. At two particular points in this course the Sun is found on the Zodiacal signs, Cancer and Capricorn, which are distinguished as the summer and winter solstices. When the sun is in these points, he has reached his greatest northern and southern limits. These points, if we suppose the circle to represent the sun's annual course, will be indicated by the points where the parallel lines touch the circle. " - Ancient Mystic Oriental Masonry By R. Swinburne Clymer pg.  161-162

"The point within became a universal emblem to denote the temple of the Deity, and was referred to the planetary circle in the center of which was fixed the sun, as the universal god and father of nature; for the whole circle of heaven was called God. - Ancient Mystic Oriental Masonry By R. Swinburne Clymer pg. 162-163

"The Point within a Circle is derived from the Ancient Sun worship, and is in reality of Phallic origin. It is a symbol of the Universe, the Sun being represented by the point, while the circumference is the Universe." - Ancient Mystic Oriental Masonry By R. Swinburne Clymer pg. 163

"The point within a circle is an interesting and important symbol in Freemasonry, but it has been so debased in the interpretation of it in the modern lectures that the sooner that interpretation is..." - Ancient Mystic Oriental Masonry By R. Swinburne Clymer pg. 163

"the point within the circle, the point indicating the sun, and the circle the Universe, invigorated and fertilized by his generative rays." - Ancient Mystic Oriental Masonry By R. Swinburne Clymer pg. 166

"So far, then, we arrive at the true interpretation of the Masonic symbolism of the point within the circle. It is the same thing, but under different form, as the Master and Wardens of a lodge. The Master and Wardens are symbols of the sun, the lodge of the Universe, or world, just as the point is the symbol of the same sun, and the surrounding circle of the universe." - Ancient Mystic Oriental Masonry By R. Swinburne Clymer pg. 166
