The Sphinx
"The Sphinx again symbolises man, with the mind and spirit of the human rising out of the animal desires and emotions."-The Initiates of the Flame Manly P. Hall Pg 79 |
"The four fixed signs of which the Sphinx is a symbol are Taurus the Bull. Leo the Lion, Scorpio the Eagle, and Aquarius the Man, or the human head"-The Initiates of the FlameManly P. Hall Pg 79
"It is said that in ancient times the Sphinx was the gateway of the pyramid, and that there was an underground passage which led from the Sphinx to Cheopa. This would make the symbolism even more perfect, for the gateway to the spirit is through the bodies according to the ancients." - The Initiates of the Flame Manly P. Hall Pg 79, 80
In documentary, "The Mystery of the Sphinx”, John Anthony West contends that the main type of weathering evident on the Great Sphinx and surrounding enclosure walls could only have been caused by prolonged and extensive rainfall during the time period from 10,000 to 5000 BCE and was carved out of limestone bedrock by an ancient advanced culture (such as the Heavy Neolithic Qaraoun culture). This challenged the conventional dating of the carving of the statue circa 2500 BCE.
